SCIENTIFIC SOCIETY FOR SOCIAL MEDICINE, INFORMATICS AND HEALTHCARE MANAGEMENT


   The scientific society for social medicine, informatics and healthcare management is a voluntary union of physical persons with university education which is registered as a legal body with non-economic purpose, which accomplishes its activities for private benefit.
It was created in 1992 and has the following registrations: Sofia District Court, company registration act N 34975/1992, tax number 1223121280 and EIK Bulstat N 130986258. The address of the location of the society is Sofia, p.c. 1431, bul “Akad. Ivan Geshov” N 15 (NCHI), secretary ass. Prof. Tanya Tcholakova.
   The members of the society are physicians, dentists, pharmacists, economists, lawyers, information specialist, engineers etc. (with or without scientific degree), with common interests and experience in the field of social medicine, informatics, and healthcare management.
Primary aims of the society:

      Stimulate the scientific and research work in the field of social medicine, informatics, and healthcare management
      Maintain and develop different forms of qualification and help to the specialists, working in the field of healthcare
      Make popular the achievements of Bulgarian medical science and collaborate with local and international organizations in the field of social medicine, medical informatics, healthcare management, health care economics, etc.
      Participation and support of designing and realization of programs and projects for development of healthcare, for improvement of the information system, for the qualification of the personnel as well as for exchange of information in the field of social medicine, informatics, and healthcare management.

   Beginning from 1993 the society publishes a trimester magazine “Social medicine”. During the last three years the “Open Society Foundation” sponsors the publication. The magazine publishes original articles and reviews on actual problems of health and healthcare and informational support to healthcare management in our country and abroad.
A significant part of the members of the society have experience in working with projects funded by World Health Organization and World Bank.

   Members of the Society take part in the proceedings of several sub- commissions of DG SANCO of the European Commission. The society participates in a project under the World Bank for assessment of the information system for natural movement of the population and morbidity in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
    The society collaborates with other nongovernmental organizations, dealing with the problems of health and healthcare. Most active is the work with “Union of communities in Bulgaria”, movement “Women against Cancer” etc.
   In the last three years the Scientific Society successfully worked on an World Bank project “Health Information Standards – Documentation and Classification “.
